Ministry of the Holy Spirit with Christians
Baptizes (Immerses) the Believer into the Body of Christ—the Church
1 Corinthians 12:12, 13, 27
For as the body is one and has many members, but all the members of that one body, being many, are one body, so also is Christ. For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body—whether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or free—and have all been made to drink into one Spirit. . . . Now you are the body of Christ, and members individually. (cf. Galatians 3:28; Ephesians 2:11-22; Colossians 3:11)
Ephesians 1:22, 23
And He put all things under His feet, and gave Him to be head over all things to the Church, which is His body, the fullness of Him who fills all in all.
Ephesians 5:29, 30
For no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as the Lord does the Church. For we are members of His body, of His flesh and of His bones. (cf. Romans 12:5; 1 Corinthians 6:15; 12:12, 27)
Colossians 1:18, 24; 3:11
And He is the head of the body, the Church, who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in all things He may have the preeminence . . . I now rejoice in my sufferings for you, and fill up in my flesh what is lacking in the afflictions of Christ, for the sake of His body, which is the Church . . . where there is neither Greek nor Jew, circumcised nor uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave nor free, but Christ is all and in all.
Abides and Dwells (Lives) With & In the Believer Forever
John 14:16, 17
And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever--the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you.
1 Corinthians 3:16
Do you not know that you are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you?
1 Corinthians 6:19
Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own?
2 Corinthians 6:16
And what agreement has the temple of God with idols? For you are the temple of the living God. As God has said: “I will dwell in them and walk among them. I will be their God, and they shall be My people.”
1 John 2:27
But the anointing which you have received from Him abides in you, and you do not need that anyone teach you; but as the same anointing teaches you concerning all things [see John 14:26; 16:13, 14], and is true, and is not a lie, and just as it has taught you, you will abide in Him.
Utilized by God to Seal the Believer to be the Believer’s Guarantee until Redemption
Ephesians 1:13, 14
In Him you also trusted, after you heard the Word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise, who is the guarantee of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, to the praise of His glory.
And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.
2 Corinthians 1:21, 22
Now He who establishes us with you in Christ and has anointed us is God, who also has sealed us and given us the Spirit in our hearts as a guarantee.
2 Corinthians 5:5
Now He who has prepared us for this very thing is God, who also has given us the Spirit as a guarantee.
Bears Witness with the Believer’s Spirit that He is a Child of God
The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God. (cf. Galatians 4:6; 1 John 4:13)
Convicts (Rebukes, Reproves) the Believer of Sin, Righteousness, and Judgment
And when He [Holy Spirit] has come, He will convict the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment. (cf. Hebrews 12:5)
Assists the Believer in Sanctification (Being Set Apart)
For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit.
I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh. For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, so that you do not do the things that you wish. But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law.
Teaches the Believer Bible Doctrine and What to Say on Any Occasion
For the Holy Spirit will teach you in that very hour what you ought to say. (cf. Matthew 10:19; Mark 13:11)
John 14:16, 26
And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever. . . But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you.
But when the Helper comes, whom I shall send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth who proceeds from the Father, He will testify of Me.
John 16:7, 13
Nevertheless I tell you the truth. It is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but if I depart, I will send Him to you. . . . However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come.
1 Corinthians 2:13
These things we also speak, not in words which man’s wisdom teaches but which the Holy Spirit teaches, comparing spiritual things with spiritual. (cf. 2 Corinthians 3:12-18)
1 John 2:20, 27
But you have an anointing from the Holy One, and you know all things. . . . But the anointing which you have received from Him abides in you, and you do not need that anyone teach you; but as the same anointing teaches you concerning all things, and is true, and is not a lie, and just as it has taught you, you will abide in Him.
Informs the Believer of Future Events
However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come.
Provides Spiritual Gifts to the Believer for Christian Service
1 Corinthians 12:7-11
But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to each one for the profit of all: for to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, to another the word of knowledge through the same Spirit, to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healings by the same Spirit, to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another discerning of spirits, to another different kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues. But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually as He wills.
God also bearing witness both with signs and wonders, with various miracles, and gifts of the Holy Spirit, according to His own will?
1 Peter 4:10
As each one has received a gift, minister it to one another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.
Empowers the Believer for Christian Service
Behold, I send the Promise of My Father upon you; but tarry in the city of Jerusalem until you are endued with power from on high.
Nevertheless I tell you the truth. It is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but if I depart, I will send Him to you. And when He has come, He will convict the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment: of sin, because they do not believe in Me; of righteousness, because I go to My Father and you see Me no more; of judgment, because the ruler of this world is judged.
But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth. (cf. Acts 2:2, 4; 4:31-33)
1 Corinthians 2:4
And my speech and my preaching were not with persuasive words of human wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power.
That He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with might through His Spirit in the inner man.
1 Thessalonians 1:5
For our gospel did not come to you in word only, but also in power, and in the Holy Spirit and in much assurance, as you know what kind of men we were among you for your sake.
2 Timothy 1:7
For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.
Is Always Available to the Believer for Harmonized & Mature Spiritual Living
I say then: walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh.
But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law.
If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.
2 Peters 1:21
For prophecy never came by the will of man, but holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit.
And do not be drunk with wine, in which is dissipation; but be filled (Gk. pleroo – be made complete, achieve maturity, be influenced or controlled) with the Spirit, speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord, giving thanks always for all things to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, submitting to one another in the fear of God. (i.e., Colossians 3:16)
Assists the Believer in and with Prayer
Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.
